Kilimanjaro Diary days 6& 7
Day 6, the 15th October, saw us climbing to the Arrow Glacier for acclimatisation, then descending to Barranco at 3950m - it seems a shame to go down, but the western flank of the mountain is rather undulating! Barranco camp 15 Oct 2000

Day 7, 16th October
"We set off this morning at 9.15 and almost immediately have to climb the long and steep Barranco Wall. It's tough but not as difficult as the glacier, because we're at a much lower altitude. We finally reach the top at 11am, and the views of the clouds below are amazing.
It's another 2 hour walk to Karanga Valley, our next camp. We have lunch, then there's an optional climb up a nearby scree slope. It's really difficult, but it's good practice for summit day!
We have chicken drumsticks, rice & spinach for main course tonight. We leave the mess tent after dinner to go to our tent, and find Dave lying on his back staring at the stars. Nutter - it's freezing!"
